Function and circulation
The administrative buildings of the television and radio factory Mivar is turned into a museum of the industry and models they produced during the years. The administrative building on the west is connected with the warehaus part through a basement level and 2 staircases as vertical circulation. The project proposes an exhibition space that is starting in the west wing of the basement and continuing on the ground floor of the east wing.
Light concept
On the eastern building, the volumes added are mainly used for lighting enhancement as well as a thermal buffer zone in the form of a south-facing greenhouse. The southern greenhouse will also act as circulation for the exhibition areas, and generally provide a different sensory experience from the rest of the building. The northern addition will be light wells that reflect the southern light and bounce it down to openings in the exhibition spaces. The light void sits on the existing shacht of the basement, in this way bringing light through 4 openings in the basement. The spaces between those schacht are used to be bring light in the same manner to the ground floor. In this way a changing rhythm of openings and wall is created in both floors.
Minimalistic interventions
The intervention is aimed to be respectful to the original structure of the building, so all light openings are placed in the non-structural brick walls with light led from the roof through light vaults.
