The ruined structure found in the valley leading to the medievil town of Gennazzano is claimed to be Bramante’s addition to a roman water source. The building is connected to the city as its purpose was thought to be a summer residense of the Colonna family - rulers of the town and region. The visual and programatic connection between the town and the ruine called Nymphaeum is on other hand lacking, as it is hidden by the slope and nature of the valley. The proposal in front of the Nymphaeum in Genazzano reconnects the hidden renaissance ruin with its context in order to bring the structure back into conciousness. Facing the Nymphaeum it is located in a place that is the focus point of many aspects that shaped the nymphaeum over the centuries. The town in the background with the castle of the influential colonna family - for whom the structure was most likely built as leisure and naumechea spot. The topography of the lush valley gives the ruin its enchanted and sheltered ambience.
